Report: Business to pay for unlicensed software if vendors return
MOSCOW, Jun 20 (PRIME) -- The Digital Development Ministry hopes that Russian companies will pay for the use of foreign companies’ IT solutions without license if they return to the country, Minister Maksut Shadayev said on Monday in an interview to RBC Daily.
“We want the companies to declare the use of a solution and confirm that if the large players return one day they will be ready to pay them for the time of this unlicensed exploitation,” Shadayev said.
Legalization of piracy will conserve the problem, and businessmen will be discouraged to install Russian solutions, the minister said, adding that the authority is trying to find a balance between flawless functioning and stagnation of the issue.
A number of foreign software producers, including Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle, earlier suspended supplies to Russia because of Ukraine.
